Fresh Start Programs, Treatment That Works Since 1972

Helping individuals recover from a life of alcohol, drugs and chaos to a drug-free life with direction, purpose and integrity is not easy. Fortunately, our unique program accomplishes this with one of the few majority success rate programs in the world. Established in 1972, our program has the longest proven track record in the substance abuse treatment field.

No one plans to become addicted to drugs, but once a long term drug addiction has fully developed, the below steps must be fully administered to resolve the problems that develop both mentally and physically from prolonged addictive drug use.

When all of the steps below are administered, 40 years of studies have shown a majority success rate by those receiving this treatment protocol for their addiction.

The vast majority of Fresh Start Programs Graduates achieve their goal of a drug-free life and no longer live from minute to minute in fear that they will relapse. The vast majority of our graduates overcome a life of addiction. They are no longer consumed with feelings of overwhelming involuntary urges, cravings and compulsions to consume alcohol or drugs to get through the day, nor do they live their lives in constant fear that they are destined to return to their addictive behaviors. There is no need for you or your loved one to live a life of addiction any longer.

In stark contrast to our program methodology, traditional treatment programs provide only the "bare essentials" (i.e. Medically assisted withdrawal along with group sessions). Most traditional programs provide no strategies or solutions to address the complex life problems that are the direct source of addiction. The result of this for many individuals is to relapse due to insufficient treatment protocol.

What Is An Addictive Drug?

An addictive drug is any substance that when taken over an extended period of time creates an addiction in the brain. Once an addiction is created in the brain over an extended period of time it is virtually impossible for the vast majority of people to stop on their own without a long term treatment protocol.

Why Doesn't My Loved One Just Stop Using Drugs?

Step 1. Acute Withdrawal Care.

This is 24 hours, which depending on the drug, may require medical supervision. Opiates and alcohol commonly require medical assistance as these types of drugs, can for many, create acute withdrawal symptoms. Acute withdrawal care is typically a duration of 3 to 7 days, although some drugs such as methadone and suboxone can be longer on this step.

Step 2. Sub-Acute Withdrawal Care.

Even after receiving Acute Withdrawal Care an addicted person can experience milder sub-acute withdrawal symptoms such as problems concentrating, eating, sleeping, etc. Sub-Acute Withdrawal Care consists of 24 hr. care performed by a withdrawal specialist. This involves psychological and physical therapy to assist with mild withdrawal symptoms. This step also addresses health and nutritional deficiencies.

Why Does A Person Relapse After They Have Been Clean For A Period Of Time?

When a person consumes an addictive drug, the body manages the drug through a process called metabolization. This means that the body breaks the drug down into a form that the body can use.

The simple form that the body breaks a drug down to is called metabolites.

Because addictive drugs are poison to the body, the body uses the excretory system to rid itself of excess drug toxins. The primary method that the body employs to rid itself of these drug toxins is through sweat, urine and feces.

Over time, an addictive drug user will develop a higher and higher tolerance to the drugs they are consuming. The person must continually increase the amount of the drug they are taking in order to get high.

Due to the massive amount of the drug or drugs being consumed, the body's ability to break the drugs down diminishes as the body becomes overloaded with drug toxins. The body arrives at a point where it cannot rid itself of the toxins at the same rate as the person is ingesting them. The body has no other option except to store the excessive drug metabolites. The metabolites from most drugs are lipophilic (tending to combine with or dissolve in lipids or fats). This means that drug metabolites are fat bonding. Because of this, the body will begin to store the drug metabolites in the fatty tissue. Once stored there, these drug metabolites can stay in the fatty tissue for many years.

Stored drug metabolites that are released into the blood stream is the primary factor that causes people to feel as though they are continually experiencing cravings and withdrawal symptoms. The release of the drug metabolites puts the person at high risk of relapsing even after being drug-free for months or even years.

Each time the person burns fat that contains drug metabolites, those drug metabolites are released into the blood stream and come into contact with the brain. When the drug metabolites enter the brain region, a very severe drug craving can be produced which can trigger a relapse.

Until the stored drug metabolites are removed from the body the person will be prone to relapse repeatedly.

Step 3. Total Body Detoxification

This step is designed to eliminate stored drug metabolites in the fat tissues of the body.

Step One: The Total Body Detoxification Process consists of cardio exercise to get the blood circulating faster to reach deep into the fat tissues of the body.

Step Two: Nutrition, including specific vitamins, minerals, vegetables and oils taken in exact quantities; and a properly ordered personal schedule that allows for adequate sleep.

Step Three: Sweating in a specially ventilated, low-heat, dry sauna to sweat out stored drug metabolites, which are the number one cause of a person relapsing after they have had a period of being drug free.

The end result of: 1. Acute Withdrawal Care 2. Sub Acute Withdrawal 3. Total Body Detoxification.

1. A person that is no longer experiencing drug cravings or withdrawal symptoms.
2. A person is in stable condition both mentally and physically in regard to the effects of their past addictive drug use.
3. Restored energy, a new vitality—a new life, free from drug dreams, thoughts and cravings.

Step 4. Objective Treatment Sessions

Objective Treatment Sessions help the person to not dwell on the past. Having the ability to live in the present is a very important factor in the life of an individual that has recently recovered from addiction.

The end result of Objective Treatment Sessions is:

A person that does not dwell on the past. A person that is mentally in the present and able to plan for and execute a happier drug-free life.

Step 5. Life Skills

Effective practice and learning leads to stability, self-respect and return of personal values. Just like physical skills, life skills can be learned.

The final component of our program consists of a series of Life Skills Courses. These courses teach the individual the knowledge he or she needs to have the ability to confront and resolve problems that arise in life.

OVERCOMING UPS & DOWNS IN LIFE COURSE

To avoid situations that might lead to drug use in the future, the person must be able to identify true friends and the positive people in their lives and, to isolate those likely to lead them back into trouble. On this course, the person comes to recognize how poor decisions regarding friends and acquaintances damaged their lives in the past and how to make better choices in the future.

PERSONAL VALUES COURSE

On the Personal Values Course, the person will discover how personal values were lost in their life and how to restore ethics and morals in their life. They come to recognize their actual obligations. They learn how to repair their life and make amends to loved ones for the past trouble they have caused and how to become a person that is worthy of trust again.

CHANGING CONDITIONS IN LIFE COURSE

Because drug and alcohol use often stems from an inability to deal with challenging situations, it is vital that former addicts learn constructive problem-solving skills that assist them to lead drug-free lives.

The Changing Conditions In Life course further educates the individual in procedures of planning and execution of goals that will effectively keep their lives moving forward in the right direction.

Step 6. New Life Plan

Creating a new life plan. This step incorporates the application of the entire program and the individual customizes it for their life and personal goals. The plan must be agreed upon by the person, applicable family and the Case Supervisor. The plan must be seen to have the maximum potential for the person's future success.

The New Life Plan helps to ensure that the individual has put together a comprehensive, sensible plan to live a drug-free, productive, and ethical life.

Step 7. Two Year Follow-Up Program

Although each action of our program produces significant gains, it is the combined effect of all these steps collectively which results in a full and permanent recovery.

Our long-term follow-up program is designed and implemented to assist the person through their recovery.

This is accomplished through weekly contact with the graduate and designated family members. The purpose is to observe and check the progress of our graduates over a period of two years; also to track and monitor the rate of success by our systematic review process.

The primary purpose of our follow-up program is to monitor and address our graduates stability and progress. The individual will receive any special assistance needed in order to continue a drug free life.

Our Program Guarantee

Our addiction treatment program is one of the most effective programs in the drug and alcohol addiction treatment field, which is why we can stand behind our services with a unique and exclusive return program guarantee.

If a Fresh Start Programs graduate relapses within 6 months of graduating our program that graduate is eligible to return for a free review treatment program. We must be notified of their relapse within 6 months of their graduation, they must return for their review program within that same time period and they must meet the eligibility requirements listed below. This free review treatment program does not include the price of airfare or the cost of medical detoxification (if necessary).

Eligibility requirements depend on the graduate's willingness, cooperation, medical condition, ethics record, outstanding Fresh Start fees due, legal obligations, legal disputes, broken agreements with our organization and any other conditions that are determined to be detrimental to the graduate, our organization, our students, our staff or the surrounding community near our centers.
